MAD SCI NETWORK

We're looking for a few good heads..

Welcome to MadSci Network, a world-renowned Ask-A-Scientist service that has been in existence since 1995. If you would like to become part of our growing collective of scientists fielding questions from the WWW community, please fill out the form at the bottom of the page.

What is the MadSci NETWORK?

The MAD Scientist Network is a *free*, web-based Ask-A-Scientist service. Anyone may submit a question to be answered by people actively engaged in science education and research. We maintain an archive of all questions and answers as an ongoing resource for teachers, students and the WWW community at large.

Since we began in September of 1995 we have received more than 100,000 questions. Our online archives contain more than 25,000 question/answer pairs, that will be viewed by more than 5 million people in 2001.

What do you need to participate?

Participation requires three things:
  1. A valid email address.
  2. Access to the WWW.
  3. Knowledge of a particular area of science and a willingness to communicate your expertise with others.

How does the network work?

People send us questions through our online question form. Once received, one of the MadSci Moderators reviews the question, prior to sending it to a specific member for an answer.

We maintain a WWW form for members to directly upload or otherwise construct their answers. The MadSci Moderators review all answers prior to making them available on our website.

For a better idea of how things work, take a look at the question-submission form, current queue of questions and answers, and the MadSci User's Manual. We also maintain a list of all participating scientists.

How much time will be required?

The "time required" varies, depending on how many areas you select in which to receive questions, as well as how many questions we receive in a given month (the school year tends to be busier than the summer months). The more areas you choose, the more likely you are to frequently receive questions. As far as time for answering questions, we ask that scientists take time to research (and reference!) their answers to an extent that provides an understandable answer for the person asking the question. Such a response generally takes no more than a few hours to construct and submit. As we exist on the WWW, we encourage scientists to take advantage of the on-line search engines locate further sites with useful information, and to include the links in their answers.

Sign Me Up At No Monthly Cost!...

To sign up, please fill out the form below. If you would like further information, please send a message to webadmin@www.madsci.org.
Remember: This form is for people who want to answer questions, not people who want to ask questions. You can ask a question on our site here.

MAD Sign-Up SCIENTIST Form

Please fill out all required boxes on the form. (Note: Don't put middle names or initials, titles such as Dr., or degrees such as MS or Ph.D. in your name field.) You will receive confirmation by email soon after you send your information to us. You must write a valid email address in the Email: field. The MadSci administrators review all "applications" and will notify you thereafter with further information about how to use our olineinterfaces for answering questions.

If you wish to ask questions at our site, please fill out the question submission form, not the form below.
