While you learn online:

Good News. . .Bad News.  

One of the advantages of an online course is that you don't have to go to class to listen to Miss Pammi drone on during boring lectures (as if!).  One of the disadvantages of an online course is that you don't GET to come to class and listen to Miss Pammi give you insightful and inspiring lectures that teach you the material!  So . . . .  

You are the Master of your own Destiny and Learning!  

In this class, you are your own instructor!  Therefore, you need to develop a lesson plan that you will consistently follow each time you study Intro.    

When you are ready to go to work on your Intro course materials, try to follow these steps:

1. Have your textbook by your side. 

2. While sitting at the computer, log on to the 2-3 sites (see Getting Started) for the course. 

Pre- and Post-Quizzes. 

• Online Learning Center site:  This is the "companion web site" for the textbook.  For most courses, the textbook site includes some OPTIONAL quizzes, pre-tests, post-tests, etc.  It's a really good idea to take advantage of these and remember these points:  

  • No points are assigned for these assignments.  It is not necessary to report your scores from these to me! 

  • You will get instant feedback as you click on the answer to each question at the bottom of the screen. 

  • In addition, if you miss a question, a note is shown that indicates the correct information for the question.

Try to Finish a Chapter or Module in One Sitting!  As you complete the various content topics within a chapter, continue to work until you complete all the components of a chapter.  

As you will quickly see, it will take you quite some time to complete all activities for a chapter. 

• Take yourself to class.  While you don’t have to get dressed or get in the car, “take yourself to class” when you work on the course materials. 

• Make an appointment with yourself 2-3 times each week to work just on this course.  Since this stuff is so detailed, it tends to overwhelm your brain if you try to do too much in one sitting.  Don't wait until the last minute to try to do a whole week's assignments.  Pace yourself! 

  • For a summer course, you should take yourself to class 4-5 times each week! 

• Explain to your family that you are "in class" and ask them not to interrupt you!  Sometimes this is tricky, but try to make them understand how important it is that you have quality study time!  

• Clock yourself the first as you work on the first few chapters and assignments so you can make necessary adjustments in your scheduling plans.
